One man charged in connection to firing shots at passing cars in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — One man was charged in connection to pointing a gun at passing cars, and firing several shots, officials said.

Joseph McEver Walton IV was arrested on Feb. 27. Shortly after 5 p.m., officers were dispatched to an individual with a gun complaint in the area of N. Armistead Avenue and YMCA Way.

Officers arrived and were able to take him into custody without incident.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the suspect was pointing a firearm at passing vehicles. As a city fire truck approached the area, the suspect pointed the firearm toward the car and fired one shot. The suspect then fired toward another passing vehicle twice, prior to officers’ arrival. Neither vehicle was hit.

Walton has been charged with four counts of brandishing a firearm, three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle, three counts of shooting across a roadway, and one count of reckless handling of a firearm. There were no injuries or property damage reported as a result of this incident.
