One killed after crashing into tractor-trailer on I-77N in Chester County: SCHP

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person has died after crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer on I-77 north, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Around 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, officials responded to I-77 north near mile marker 53, about three miles west of Great Falls.

A 2023 Volvo tractor-trailer was off the right side of the road in the emergency lane when a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup driving north veered off the right side and crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer, highway patrol said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Volvo were not injured.

Highway patrol didn’t specify if speed or alcohol were factors in the collision. It is also unknown if the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
