Lanes reopened on Independence after crash that injured one, caused debris to fall from bridge

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — All lanes are clear after a crash on Eastway Drive caused debris to fall onto Independence which briefly shut down the road, according to NCDOT.

Officials reported the accident around 5:10 p.m. The lanes re-opened shortly before 7 p.m.

NCDOT officials say the crash caused some concrete that supports a metal hand railing to fall onto Independence. Three of four lanes were closed while crews were clearing the scene.

Repairs will be made at a later date, however, there are no safety concerns with the bridge.

While the road was closed, heavy traffic was backed up past Sharon Amity Road.
