Samsung’s next flagship phablet is the Galaxy Note 4, which will be unveiled on September 3rd during a special media event taking place in Berlin at IFA 2014. Now ZDNet Korea has apparently managed to confirm at least one of the processors Samsung will use for the new phablet.
Just like with other high-end Galaxy devices, Samsung is expected to release two versions of the Galaxy Note 4 when it comes to processors, including a Qualcomm-based model and one packing an Exynos chip. In fact, a recent benchmark test confirmed that Samsung is testing two Galaxy Note 4 versions, including an octa-core Exynos 5433 CPU and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor.
ZDNet Korea has learned from sources familiar with the matter that Qualcomm has indeed agreed to sell Samsung the Snapdragon 805 processor for the Galaxy Note 4, offering the Korean corporation a significant discount of more than $10 per chip in the process.
“The discount is in the two digits per chip and huge, quite rare in the industry,” an unnamed source said.
Apparently, this special Qualcomm-Samsung deal enraged LG, which believes it’s also entitled to a similar discount.
“LG considered it unfair to rule them out of such discount as they are also an important customer more Qualcomm,” explained one source.
