One dead, two injured in late-night accident in northern Champaign County
May 16—HENSLEY TOWNSHIP — One person died and two others have been injured in a head-on collision late Wednesday in northern Champaign County.
Sheriff's deputies said they responded at 11:02 p.m. to the accident near the intersection of county roads 900 East and 2400 North, about halfway between Mahomet and Thomasboro.
Deputies determined a vehicle that was heading north on 900 East crossed into the southbound lanes near the intersection and was hit head-on by a vehicle heading south.
The driver of the first vehicle died as a result of the accident.
A passenger in the second vehicle was airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of that vehicle was taken to Carle by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
The names of those involved have not yet been released. The accident is still under investigation by the sheriff's office and other agencies.
