UPDATE: Coroner ID’s man killed in Hervey City shooting

HERVEY CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Macon County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the person who was killed Monday in a shooting at a Hervey City business.

Coroner Michael Day said the victim is Gregory W. Hostetler, 48 of Dalton City. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.

An autopsy was performed on Tuesday in Bloomington to determine the exact cause of death and help in the investigation. Day determined Hostetler died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

That investigation is being performed by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police.


HERVEY CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — One person is dead and two other people are hurt following a shooting in rural Macon County on Monday. One of the hurt individuals is a suspect in the shooting, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened at Five Star Auto Sales in Hervey City, located on Illinois Route 121. Officials with the Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded and found the suspect and two victims with gunshot wounds.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene; family members at the scene said he was Five Star’s owner. The other victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to be ok. The suspect was also taken to the hospital.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released at a later date.
