Second victim dies after car crash leads to shooting in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A second victim has died Monday after a shooting in Kansas City, police say.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. near 39th and Woodland. Kansas City Police said it started as a report about gunshots after a crash.

KCPD said several people were at the intersection because of a non-injury crash. There was an argument at the scene of the crash and it led into a shooting.

Two people were shot, and one of them died at the scene. The other was taken to a hospital where they later died from their injuries, according to KCPD.

Police have identified one of the victims as 31-year-old Deion Lewis. Police are still working to identify the second victim.

KCPD said, based on a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the two victims were firing shots.
