One dead after falling from stands during Ohio State commencement ceremony

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead after falling from the stands during the Ohio State University commencement ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Ohio State confirmed to Nexstar’s WCMH that one person fell from the stands of Ohio Stadium during graduation.

Police and emergency responders were still on the scene when WCMH’s crew arrived.

The university spokesperson said that counseling and other resources will be made available for anyone affected by the incident.

It’s unclear if the victim was a graduating student or someone attending the ceremony. No additional details were made available.

Ohio State’s 2024 spring commencement ceremony began at noon and is scheduled to conclude before 3 p.m. According to a university spokesperson, the incident did not impact graduation proceedings.
