Man arrested after report of armed person at Towson University; no weapon found

A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after an armed person was believed to be on Towson University’s campus, Baltimore County Police said. No weapon was ultimately located.

County police said officers responding to reports of shoplifting at about 3:35 p.m. in the area of Washington Avenue and West Pennsylvania Avenue in Towson found a person who fled the scene and was believed to be armed.

The university police department said in an alert that it was notified soon after of an “on campus armed person at the intersection of University Avenue and Towsontown Boulevard, which was temporarily closed by police.

Baltimore County Police and Towson University Police took the man into custody at the scene. He was arrested and charged with robbery, first-degree assault and “other theft-related charges,” said county police spokesperson Trae Corbin.
