One airlifted to hospital after SUV crashed into embankment in Carroll County

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A helicopter landed on a Carroll County highway on April 15 to airlift a person rescued from their vehicle after crashing into an embankment.

Details about what led to the crash are limited; however, around 12:12 p.m. the Hillsville Fire Department confirmed that crews were called to Route 100, Sylvatus Highway, near Rock Creek Road.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a vehicle down a steep embankment and in the trees with the driver trapped inside.

Crews removed the driver’s side door and the driver was pulled up using a stokes basket. They were then flown to the hospital for treatment.

The driver’s condition and if passengers were in the vehicle are unknown, at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
