Once Upon a Time, Hugh Grant Tried to Nix His ‘Love, Actually’ Dance
Hugh Grant is a man of reason. So much so, that he almost didn’t agree to his legendary Love, Actually dance because he didn’t understand its logic.
The Paddington 2 star told People he “never understood” his Pointer Sisters “Jump (for My Love)” dance solo, so he kept trying to derail it.
“I kept saying to Richard [Curtis, the director] ‘Okay look, I got the radio on in my bedroom and I’m dancing fine, but then I start to dance through the whole 10 Downing Street. Where’s the music coming from and how does it cut off at the end?” Grant remembered.
Ultimately, Curtis convinced him to let go of logic and embrace the power of dance, but Grant still wasn’t keen on rehearsing.
“They kept saying to me during the week leading up to shooting that scene…‘Here we’re going to rehearse the dancing now,’ and I’d say, ‘Oh, it’s not a good day. I’ve got a bad ankle.’ So we never did it. I just did it.”
Practice or not, it turned out pretty, pretty good in our humble opinion.
