Onalaska man charged with reckless homicide in overdose death

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – An Onalaska man is charged with 1st degree reckless homicide. A criminal complaint shows 34-year-old Aspen Kalina II was formally charged today (5/22/24).

In May of Last Year, Authorities Received A Call From Staff At The Wazee Treatment House regarding a nonresponsive male in a shared bathroom. Authorities found suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia on the floor next to the victim. Results from an autopsy showed the cause of death was determined to be fentanyl and methamphetamine, and it was classified as an accident. Kalina is suspected to have sold the victim the drugs.

A $500 thousand cash bond is set for Kalina and a court appearance is scheduled for June 17th.
