Last week, we wrote about one of our fave Olympic stories from the 2016 Rio Olympics. It’s a story of compassion amid competition. When American runner Abbey D’agostinio and New Zealand runner Nikki Hamblin both fell during the Women’s 5,000-meter preliminary race, they stopped to help one another in an amazing show of sportsmanship.

Now, both Nikki and Abbey have been awarded a special medal for their incredible sportsmanship.

According to the Telegraph, these two awesome ladies are being given the Pierre de Coubertin Medal, which has only been awarded 17 times in Olympic history. This medal is also known as the International Fair Play Committee Award and is reserved for athletes that have demonstrated the Olympic spirit.

Nikki and Abbey’s story is one of the most heartwarming moments during Rio, and we’re so happy to see them honored.

Nikki and Abbey show us that you can be competitive and still be friends, and that is definitely worthy of a Gold Medal!

Abbey and Nikki are totally our Olympic #squadgoals!
