Olivia Newton-John discusses new cancer diagnosis and medical marijuana on 'Today'

Olivia Newton-John was interviewed by Natalie Morales on Today and opened up about her recent fight with cancer. About four months ago the singer found out that her breast cancer, from which she was in remission for 25 years, had returned and had metastasized. Newton-John discovered something was wrong when she had trouble walking but soon found that her breast cancer had moved to her lower back.

Throughout her treatment the singer has maintained a positive outlook. She said, “I don’t read into prognosis and statistics because I think that can really be depressing. And I’m not going to be one of those statistics. I’m going to be fine. I’ll probably deal with this in my life as an ongoing thing. I think you can live with cancer like you can live with other things, if you take care of yourself.”

The actress and singer has been working hard to build the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Center in Melbourne, Australia, since her original diagnosis in 1992.

Newton-John also credited medical marijuana with helping her through her treatment, saying, “This plant is a healing plant. We need to change the vision of what it is because it helped me greatly, and it helps with pain and inflammation.”
