Old Port of Montreal president's trip report parodied by NDP MP

OTTAWA - The president of the Old Port of Montreal is now the subject of ridicule from a member of the Commons committee scrutinizing her spending.

Claude Benoit had been asked to show the ethics committee the report she produced after charging the Crown corporation $10,000 for a South Pacific trip.

She had claimed 12 days of work out of a 29-day personal voyage to Australia and New Zealand in which she concedes she did not meet any local officials.

When the report was tabled with the committee, the Old Port asked that it remain secret.

But NDP MP Charlie Angus asked an intern in his office to produce a spoof version of the picture-heavy report using Google and Flickr photos found online, to give the public a sense of what the real one looked like.

Angus says the report was easy to put together and cost the taxpayer almost nothing.
