U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Oklahoma, says Nikki Haley "took it too far" in regards to Haley's presidential run.

"She probably should have got out when she lost her own state," Mullin told News9 the day after Haley announced her decision to drop out.

Haley announced she was suspending her 2024 presidential campaign Wednesday morning, after suffering disappointing losses across the country on Super Tuesday. Haley's exit paves the way for former President Donald Trump to coast to the nomination, setting up an all but guaranteed rematch of the 2020 election with President Joe Biden. The former South Carolina governor has not announced plans to endorse Trump.

"I could understand why she stayed there for that, but the fact that she just stayed there and kept going after our nominee for the Republican party to be the next president of the United States, Donald Trump, it was a waste of money," Mullin said.

Mullin, a longtime supporter of the former president, was one of the first elected officials in the country to endorse Trump for his 2024 campaign.

Mullin, 45, previously served 10 years in the House before winning the Senate seat vacated by Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe.

He owns a plumbing business and has been an MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter in the past.
