Oklahoma woman trying to reunite with lost dog

ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Muskogee, Okla., woman is working to get her lost dog back after it ended up at a shelter in Northwest Arkansas.

Courtney Baird says her dog Jax was stolen, and she is determined to find him.

“I started looking and posting on every single animal site. Everyone I could think of, looking at every shelter I could think of,” said Baird.

She says she was in and out of the hospital between October 2023 and December 2023. While in the hospital her family members were taking care of her dog. Baird says while Jax was outside, someone stole him.

“I just lost it really and cried for so many days,” said Baird.

She says over the years, Jax has been the light of her life.

“He is just the happiest. Most happiest-go-lucky dog you’ll ever see in your whole life,” said Baird.

Matt Coleston is with animal control in the city of Rogers. He says something like this can happen to anyone.

“I mean even the best pet owners have had their dog and cat get loose,” said Coleston.

Coleston says microchipping your animal is one of the fastest ways to get your lost animal returned to you.

“It’s an I.D. that the animal cannot lose because it’s put in subcutaneously,” said Coleston.

“They can call the company, and the company can tell them who owns the animal,” said Coleston.

Baird says all she wants is to be able to reunite with Jax.

“I don’t want to make any family sad but my family was me and Jackson,” said Baird.

According to Baird, Jax ended up in a Washington County shelter. He was transferred to a Kansas City, Missouri shelter where Jax was adopted out in January.
