Okla. unemployment rate increases to 5 percent
Oklahoma's unemployment rate increases in May to 5 percent; first increase since July 2012
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma's latest employment figures show the state's unemployment rate rose slightly in May, the first month-to-month increase since July 2012.
The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reported Friday the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose by one-tenth of 1 percent in May, from 4.9 percent to 5 percent. The agency reports an estimated 91,620 Oklahomans were unemployed in May.
Oklahoma's rate still is significantly lower than the national unemployment rate of 7.6 percent, which also increased in May by one-tenth of 1 percent.
The report shows the leisure and hospitality sector added 3,400 jobs during the month, but there were 3,000 jobs lost in the trade, transportation and utilities sector.
