Oilers put Jones on waivers

The Edmonton Oilers placed veteran forward Ryan Jones on waivers, the team announced Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Jones had signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Oilers in July after an injury-shortened 2013 season.

Jones suffered an eye injury during a lockout practice last year that required surgery. He returned to the ice in late February to play in 27 games and contribute seven points.

Before last season, Jones was a significant contributor for the Oilers. He scored 35 goals between 2010 and 2012, ranking third on the team with Jordan Eberle.
