Oil spill response exercise planned for Valdez

Government, industry plan oil spill response exercise in Valdez this week

VALDEZ, Alaska (AP) -- An oil spill response exercise is planned this week in Valdez to test government and industry capabilities.

The U.S. Coast Guard, state Department of Environmental Conservation and city of Valdez plan to participate in the exercise along with the Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. Alyeska operates the trans-Alaska pipeline system.

The Coast Guard says the exercise, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, will simulate a worst-case oil discharge at the Valdez Marine Terminal.
