Oil ends slightly lower as consumer confidence fades

The price of crude fell slightly Thursday following a reported drop in consumer confidence and also growing pessimism that political leaders in Washington can reach a budget deal.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange:

Benchmark crude fell 11 cents to finish at $90.87 per barrel.

Gasoline rose 0.55 cent to end at $2.8213 a gallon.

Heating oil rose 2.1 cents to finish at $3.0723 a gallon.

Natural gas fell 3.8 cents to end at $3.3540 per 1,000 cubic feet.

On the ICE Futures exchange in London:

Brent crude fell 27 cents to finish the day at $110.87 per barrel.
