Ohio Primary election: What to know about early voting

OHIO (WJW) — The Ohio Primary is just over a week away. And if you plan to request a mail-in ballot, Tuesday, March 12, is the deadline to make that request.

Mail-in applications can be printed from each county Board of Elections website. Voters can also pick one up at a local library.

The request must be made by 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The ballot must be postmarked by Monday, March 18, or returned in person to your county’s Board of Elections by the time polls close on Election Day.

In presidential election years, voters are anxious to have their voices heard and narrow the field of candidates. However, the nominations are all but sealed for President Biden and former President Donald Trump.

The senate race in Ohio is driving interest as Cleveland businessman Bernie Moreno, Secretary of State Frank LaRose, and State Sen. Matt Dolan try to unseat Democratic U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown.

According to Deputy Director of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Anthony Kaloger, early voter turnout is steady but not record-setting.

“We’ve seen a robust early voting turnout,” he said. “Not quite as much as we had last year in November and August with Issue 1 on the ballot. But it’s been steady. “

Early in-person voting began February 21 and continues through Sunday, March 17.

Mail-in ballot requests must be made by seven days before the election on Tuesday, March 19.
