Ohio Man Suspected in Five Slayings Had Dated the Daughter of Two of the Victims: Officials

A man who police say is suspected of murdering an Ohio mother and her two daughters this weekend has also been arrested in the killing of a couple soon afterward, PEOPLE confirms.

An arrest warrant was taken out for George Brinkman on two counts of murder in the deaths of of Rogell and Roberta John, of Lake Township, Ohio, according to authorities.

Brinkman was taken into custody around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday after an hours-long standoff with police in Brunswick, Ohio. He had allegedly barricaded himself inside a home there, Brunswick police told PEOPLE.

He was wanted in connection with the killings of 45-year-old Suzanne Taylor and her daughters, Taylor Pifer, 21, and 18-year-old Kylie Pifer, who were found dead Sunday night in their home in North Royalton, Ohio, about 10 miles away.

On Tuesday afternoon, officials in Stark County, Ohio, announced that Brinkman allegedly murdered the Johns in their home shortly after he allegedly killed Taylor and her children. (He has not yet been charged in the latter three homicides.)

On Monday, 71-year-old Rogell and Roberta, 64, were found dead by Rogell’s son, authorities said.

The couple had come home the day before from a vacation, Stark County Sheriff George Maier said said at a news conference on Tuesday. They had asked Brinkman to house-sit while they were gone, Maier said.

But after not hearing from the couple since they returned, Rogell’s son went to visit them.

“I just stopped by my dad’s house to check on him, and I think he and his wife might be dead,” he is heard telling a 911 operator in a phone call.

The couple was discovered in a bedroom — their unpacked luggage still by the stairs and their dog waiting to be walked. Rogell’s son said he knew something was wrong when the dog started to bark, and he noticed the bedroom doorknob broken off.

“I hadn’t heard from them, they came back from vacation yesterday,” he said in the call.

When he entered the room, Rogell’s son said he saw his stepmother’s leg from under a blanket with “spots” of blood nearby.

“He’s on the bed, she’s on the floor,” he told 911. It appeared the Johns had been shot, Sheriff Maier said on Tuesday.

Stark County officials believe the couple’s slaying occurred after Brinkman allegedly killed Taylor and her daughters.

Their bodies were found in their home’s master bedroom, under the covers, almost as though they’d been tucked into bed, detective Dave Loeding of the North Royalton Police Department previously told PEOPLE.

It’s unclear if there is a connection between the Johns and Taylor and her daughters.

According to detective Loeding, Taylor appeared to have died after sustaining a knife wound while her daughters’ causes of death remain unknown. They did not appear to have “obvious signs of death,” but police believe both daughters were homicide victims.

Sheriff Maier told reporters that Brinkman had previously dated the Johns’ daughter and worked at the family’s business for a number of years.

“They were associates,” Maier said. “They trusted him [enough] to watch over their home while they were on vacation.”

Brinkman is being held by North Royalton authorities. It is unclear at this time whether he has an attorney, a bond or is scheduled to appear in court to enter a plea.
