A Franklin County primary race for an Ohio House seat is going to an automatic recount after the race between two Democratic challengers came down to a margin of 20 votes.

Candidate Mark Sigrist currently leads Sarah Pomeroy, with 2,329 votes to her 2,309, according to the Franklin County Board of Elections. That puts the race into automatic recount territory, Aaron Sellers, BOE spokesperson said.

The Ohio House 10th District encompasses southern Franklin County, including parts of south and west Columbus and Grove City. The seat is currently held by Republican Rep. Dave Dobos, a longtime politician who withdrew from the race after he drew scrutiny last spring when it was discovered he hadn't earned a college degree he had long claimed, The Dispatch previously reported.

Columbus-based attorney Brian Garvine won the March Republican primary, earning over 83% of the vote against fellow challenger Shafi Shafat.

The Democratic primary recount will begin Friday, April 12 and will be done before a certification meeting on April 15, Sellers said.
