Ohio football player of the year Jordan Marshall chooses Michigan over Ohio State

Ohio State lost the battle for a "once-in-a-coaching-career" running back.

2024 four-star running back Jordan Marshall announced his commitment to Michigan on Tuesday over Ohio State, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Marshall was the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior at Cincinnati Moeller, recording 1,961 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Marshall is ranked 91st among all players nationally, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings, as well as the No. 7 running back and the third-best player in Ohio.

With Michigan, Marshall said he has the chance to follow in the footsteps of Wolverines running back Blake Corum.

“I think he does all aspects of the game well,” Marshall told The Dispatch in February. “He’s not a talker. He’s out there and he’s just playing. He’s blocking, he’s catching out the backfield. He’s doing it all. That’s the guy that I think is worth it and somebody that I’ve looked up to like, ‘Dang, that’s a Heisman running back right there.’ ”

Heading into his senior season, Marshall said his college football future has sunk in.

“We’re getting down to where do I really see myself?” Marshall said. “Where do I see myself living for three-to-four years, and, outside of football, where do I want to go to school and who do I want to be with?”

Ohio State football does not have a running back commit in the 2024 class after not picking up a commitment in the 2023 class.

The last running back the Buckeyes secured was 2022 four-star running back Dallan Hayden.
