Ohio Sen. George Lang will face former Ohio Rep. Candice Keller and a Middletown resident in the Republican primary in March.

Lang is serving his first term representing Ohio Senate District 4. The district encompasses most of Butler County, including Hamilton and Oxford. He won the seat in 2020 with 61% of the vote.

Candice Keller and Middletown resident Mark Morgan are challenging Lang for the seat.

Lang was elected to his first term in the Ohio Senatre in 2020. He previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives and as a West Chester Township trustee.

Who is George Lang?

Lang has served as a West Chester Township trustee and served two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives before he was elected senator in 2020.

He has a communications degree from Southeast Missouri State University and has lived in West Chester since 1990, according to his statehouse biography.

His recently sponsored legislation includes bills that would revise information that the state uses to update property values, allow stores to sell beer and liquor on Sundays and require the state to apply for ID cards on behalf of inmates before their release.

Who is Candice Keller?

Candice Keller represented parts of Butler County in the House from 2016 to 2020. She graduated from Miami University and works as executive director of the Community Pregnancy Center. The center's website describes its mission as sharing the gospel and promoting "sexual purity for all."

Keller sparked controversy during her time in the statehouse for refusing to wear a mask in Gettysburg, comparing Planned Parenthood to Nazis and saying "drag queen advocates" were responsible for the mass shooting in Dayton.

Who is Mark Morgan?

Morgan grew up in Middletown and has returned after a stint in Maryland, according to his campaign website.

He attended Miami University and has served two terms as a commissioner for a Washington D.C. neighborhood. He also worked for the Maryland Environmental Services agency and as a finance director for the Maryland Republican Party

How to vote

The primary election is March 19. To check your voter registration or polling location, visit VoteOhio.gov. Early voting began on Feb. 21. You can vote early in person at the county board of elections office at 802 Princeton Road in Hamilton.
