Oglebay Park's annual light display set to open

WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) — Organizers of the annual Winter Festival of Lights at Wheeling's Oglebay Park have completed the conversion of light displays to energy-efficient LED bulbs a year ahead of schedule.

The display kicks off Friday and runs through Jan. 6. WTOV-TV (http://bit.ly/TwdY5Q) reports it can be viewed from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Three displays were shown in the festival's first year in 1985. Now there are 78. New ones this year include leaping frogs and additions to existing displays.

The 6-mile driving tour offers views of displays spread across 300 acres.

Oglebay Marketing Director Caren Knoyer says the conversion to LED bulbs was expected to take five years but was finished in four.
