Officials: Attacks kill 6 people in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi officials say new attacks have killed six people in and near Baghdad.

Police officials say a bomb went off on Monday afternoon as people lined up to buy bread from a bakery in the mainly Shiite area of Kamaliyah in eastern Baghdad.

Four people died and 14 were wounded in that attack.

Earlier, gunmen shot and killed the owner of a neighborhood power generator along with his son in the town of Madian, 20 kilometers (14 miles) southeast of Baghdad.

Medical officials confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Violence has spiked in Iraq over the past months amid escalating political and sectarian tensions.
