It’s official, you can now legally buy cannabis in Pasco. Here’s how and where

Cannabis sales are legal in Pasco after two retail shops received licenses from Washington state regulators on Nov. 2.

Lucky Leaf Co. and Green2Go Recreational both received the official OK from the Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board on Thursday.

  • Lucky Leaf, 3501 Road 68, should open to the public on Monday, said owner David Morgan. Business hours will be 8 a.m.-11:55 p.m.

  • Green2Go, 5904 Road 90, opens at 2 p.m., Friday. It registered its first sale on Thursday when owner Steve Lee purchased $86 worth of product after first posting the license on the door. Beginning Monday, business hours will be 8 a.m.-11 p.m.

Lee said he didn’t make the purchase for personal use but to archive the moment.

Shadow boxing

Lee’s collection of purchases is a meaningful nod to the local growers who supply his stores. His haul included items from Binx Buds, a local grower, Happy Tree of Prescott and No Label Farms of Benton County.

He intended to arrange his collection of purchases in a shadow box and display it in the front of the store, comparable to how retailers often post their first $1 bill.

He recreated the moment for photos, including the receipt. The purchase totaled $100 with $5.25 for Pasco sales taxes and $21.80 for the state’s excise tax on cannabis.

Decriminalized 11 years ago

Cannabis remains federally illegal, but Washington voters decriminalized possession of small quantities for personal use when they approved Initiative 502 11 years ago. Cannabis is restricted to ages 21 and older.

Franklin County and the cities of Kennewick, Pasco, Richland and West Richland banned local sales, leaving only areas of Benton County open to sales.

The county later embraced its own ban, which did not affect the existing stores in Finley, Prosser and on the West Richland border.

Pasco was the first to lift its ban when the city council voted 4-2 in June. West Richland will hold a hearing a recommendation to allow sales when it meets on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Pasco is the third location for Green2Go after its spots in Finley and Tokio and the second for Lucky Leaf after its Spokane store.
