NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut official says the mother of the gunman in the Connecticut massacre was shot four times in the head before her son went to the elementary school where he gunned down 26 people.
The official says she was found in her bed wearing pajamas. It's not clear what time she was shot to death. The official was not authorized to disclose details of the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The official also says Adam Lanza killed himself with a single bullet to the head from a 10 mm gun, and the bullet was recovered in a classroom wall.
The shooting is the largest mass shooting of school-age children in U.S. history.
