Officers find stolen handgun after attempted burglary

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said officers found a stolen handgun and other possible stolen goods after being called to a burglary in progress in the morning hours of Wednesday, May 22.

According to CSPD, on Wednesday at around 7:45 a.m. officers were called to The Ivy at Cheyenne Creek Apartments near Cheyenne Boulevard and South Nevada Avenue about a burglary in progress. The caller told officers that one of the suspects allegedly pointed a gun at him.

CSPD said, when officers arrived they contacted the suspects but did not see a weapon on them. A suspect was arrested for Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender after further investigation by officers.

Police were able to get a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle and apartment. During those searches, CSPD said police found a stolen handgun along with “numerous” other items that are suspected to be stolen property. CSPD continues to investigate.
