Multiple members of the U.S. Marshals Service's Lone Star Fugitive Task Force shot and killed a man in Southwest Austin on Wednesday morning after serving him a warrant, two officials with first-hand knowledge told the American-Statesman.

The task force includes local, state and federal agencies.

Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve a warrant to a male suspect residing at an apartment complex near West William Cannon Drive. He fled the task force to the 6600 block of West William Cannon, in a blue Honda Accord, where he exited the vehicle and confronted officers with a weapon, Deon Cockrell, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety said.

Cockrell said the Texas Rangers, part of the Texas Department of Public Safety, will be leading the investigation. It's unclear whether Austin police officers had any involvement in the shooting.

The name of the person who was killed was not released.

Capt. Darren Noak, a public information officer with Austin-Travis County EMS, said medics responded to a gunshot wound call at 10:52 a.m. in the 6600 block of West William Cannon Drive, just east of the Y in Oak Hill.

The Austin Police Department posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that a public information officer was responding to the scene of the shooting.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more updates.
