Officer Chris Peck responded on Tuesday to a call regarding a kitten trapped in a chimney in Jurupa Valley.

Rudy, a 6-month-old kitten, managed to climb on top of the roof then down the chimney, which had been sealed in a house redesign.

Peck did not initially have a device long enough to reach the kitten but was provided with bed sheets, which officers used as a makeshift rope for the kitten to climb up. They got on the roof and lowered it down the chimney.

The kitten was found in the backyard early the next morning, having climbed safely out.

Officials said that if the rope didn’t work, they would have made a hole in the wall to retrieve the kitten.
