Officer-involved shooting in Harrisburg injures suspect

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A man has been hospitalized after being shot by a Harrisburg Police officer on Wednesday after city officials say the man attempted to shoot the officer.

According to Matt Maisel with the City of Harrisburg, shortly after 12 p.m. a man shot at a Harrisburg Police officer, however, the officer was not struck. Maisel says the officer returned fire and struck the suspect.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and their condition is unknown, however, at last check, he is alive.

Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo says police had responded to the area for reports of a man firing a gun along Maclay Street.

“A lot of people (were in) this area and they could’ve been hit, resulted in a tragedy with someone else being hit,” said Chardo. “Thankfully it didn’t.”

All lanes were closed on North Cameron Street between Arsenal Bl., Maclay Street, and Muench Street until about 5 p.m.

This incident is being investigated by the Dauphin County District Attorney’s office.
