Microsoft on Tuesday announced an update for its Office for iPad suite, 33 days after the company’s extremely popular productivity apps launched on the App Store, bringing a missing feature that’s surely going to be appreciated by the millions of iPad users who have already downloaded the app. Office for iPad will finally get Air Print support, the number one request Microsoft received from users.
“Your top request is here! You can now print Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations to an AirPrint printer,” the company wrote on its blog. “In Word for iPad, you can choose to print a document with or without markup. In Excel, print a selected range, a single worksheet or an entire spreadsheet. Of course, you can select the pages or slides you want to print.”
Furthermore, the new Office for iPad update brings support for SmartGuides for PowerPoint, which will help users align pictures, shapes and textboxes in a slide. Finally, an AutoFit option for Excel lets users adjust the width of multiple rows or the height of multiple columns at the same time.
Word, Excel and PowerPoint for iPad are available as free downloads from the App Store, but will only allow users to read their documents until an Office 365 application is activated. Once a subscription is purchased, either via an in-app purchase or from Microsoft (which offers a better deal), users will also be able to edit their documents on Apple’s tablet.
