Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly wants north of $20 million per year

Odell Beckham Jr. is looking to become the most handsomely paid wide receiver in football when he hits the market following the 2018-19 season, eyeing a contract that would pay him over $20 million annually.

Speaking on NFL Network’s “Up To The Minute” on Wednesday morning, Mike Garafolo said Beckham Jr. “is in the 20s… From what he has told people close to him, he wants to be in the low 20s.”

Garafolo added he did not anticipate that the Giants would match those desires, and Giants general manager Dave Gettleman’s comments Wednesday afternoon seemed to confirm that. Speaking to the media in Indianapolis prior to the NFL scouting combine, Gettleman laughed, saying, “This is America. It’s a great place. Anything’s possible.”

Gettleman did no go into further detail on negotiating with Beckham Jr.

When he’s on the field, Beckham Jr. is a special talent. As the 2014 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, Beckham Jr. caught 288 passes for 4,122 yards and 35 touchdowns in his first three seasons, each one earning him a Pro Bowl invite. But last year Beckham Jr. appeared in just four games before a broken ankle ended his season. He recently made waves by tweeting he will play zero preseason snaps as he recovers from surgery.

Beckham Jr., 25, is slated to earn $8.4 million this year, the final year of his rookie contract. Currently, Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers is the highest-paid wide receiver, making $17 million per year after signing a deal in January, 2017.
