Fans will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with some of the most elite offshore sailors in the world and even take a selfie with The Ocean Race Trophy when Newport-based 11th Hour Racing Team returns to town in August as champions of the 32,000 nautical miles around-the-world Ocean Race.

Bristol’s Charlie Enright, Newport’s Amory Ross and the rest of their world-class teammates will be on hand for the victory party, which will be held on Friday, Aug. 4 from 5–7 p.m. on the lawn of the Friends Meetinghouse in downtown Newport. The party will feature live music, food and cocktail trucks, and lawn games including cornhole and giant jenga.

“I’ve been rooting for Charlie since we became friends while we were on the Brown University Sailing Team together," Newport Major Xay Khamsyvoravong told The Daily News. "It was an honor to support his efforts on behalf of the city of Newport as he led our hometown team, 11th Hour Racing, to a historic victory. Newport is thrilled to celebrate with the entire 11th Hour team, their families and their fans.”

Event organizers are planning for as many as 1,000 people to show up to the public trophy presentation and victory party, and are encouraging fans to stay up to date using the victory party’s Facebook Event page.

"It's going to be absolutely awesome to get back to Newport and celebrate with everybody," 11th Hour Racing Team CEO Mark Towill told the Daily News. "We've been focused on trying to win this race for over a decade, and we have such a strong connection to Rhode Island and Newport... Newport has been our hometown, the community has been incredibly supportive of us and it still hasn't really sunk in that we actually won this race. To be able to come home and celebrate this with everybody in Newport is going to be a great opportunity."

Food Trucks and hand-crafted cocktails on the Newport Friends Meetinghouse lawn

  • Boru Noodle Bar– Boru has a permanent location on Broadway in Newport, but will be on hand in a truck for the champions celebration serving up their trademark ramen dishes.

  • Newport Chowder Co. – Their chowder can be bought at its recently opened storefront on Thames Street at a few stores on Aquidneck Island including Anthony’s Seafood in Middletown, Clement’s Market in Portsmouth and a number of Newport Historical Preservation Society properties in Newport. Food truck menu highlights include the lobster roll, seafood mac n’ cheese and a “super stuffie” – a quahog stuffie with a scoop of chowder on top.

  • Ming’s Asian Street Food – Ming’s bills itself as “Rhode Island’s premiere food truck.” According to their website, Ming means “auntie” in Khmer, and their truck’s packed summer schedule brings their uniquely delicious Cambodian fusion food to every corner of Rhode Island.

  • RI Cruisin’ Cocktails – Owner Sarah Gwizdowski, who was a popular bartender at the Hot Club and the East End in Providence for years before starting her own business, is up to three mobile bar trailers – two 1961 Shasta Trailers named Rosie and Marigold and a newer teardrop trailer named B'Arnold. She will have two trailers on hand at the 11th Hour Racing Team celebration to serve up a list of unique hand-crafted cocktails.

Comanchero has been playing Newport for years. The five-piece Americana jam band from Boston, formed in 2003, describes its own style as “an Americana sound that combines old traditions with new, country with rock, bluegrass with blues, honky-tonk with funk, and roots with Rockabilly.”

The band lists influences from across decades of American music, ranging from The Allman Brothers, The Band, and Little Feat to Wilco, The Drive-By Truckers, and Mumford & Sons.
