Ocala woman charged in fatal hit-and-run crash involving bicycle and scooter

A 40-year-old Ocala woman was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death after she hit a bicycle and scooter in a Silver Springs Shores neighborhood, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

On Spring Road near its intersection with Spring Place.

According to the release, a 49-year-old Ocala man was riding a bicycle east on Spring Road while towing a motorized scooter being ridden by an 84-year-old Ocala man.

A vehicle traveling in the opposite direction struck the bicycle and scooter and then fled the scene, the report says.

Law enforcement was able to quickly locate the woman driving the vehicle in the same neighborhood where the crash occurred. FHP was able to identify the woman as the driver based on the damage to the vehicle and from video footage of the crash recorded from a nearby residence.

The 84-year-old man died from his injuries. The 49-year-old man suffered serious injuries.
