Ocala Police Department officers involved in Sunday afternoon shooting identified

The names of the Ocala Police Department officers involved in Sunday's shooting of a man armed with a knife and pepper spray have been released.

Here's what we know:

Who are the officers? Sgt. Sean Young, and Officers Luis Camacho and Ferdinand Collazo.

Who shot the man? Young.

Who was shot? David Laperriere, 23, of Dunnellon.

Body cam footage was shown Monday during an Ocala Police Department press conference about an officer-involved shooting early Sunday afternoon.

What happen? Police officials said Laperriere's mother called to report that she was taking her son to The Vines, a mental health facility, when he escaped. Officers found Laperriere in the 5500 block of Southwest 27th Avenue. They were unsuccessful in talking with Laperriere, who was armed with a knife and pepper spray. Authorities said Laperriere was tased by Camacho, and then shot by Collazo with a non-lethal device. Neither the taser, nor the non-lethal shot, apparently had an affect on Laperriere. The man charged at Young while spraying the contents from the can when he was shot, officials said. A press conference was held Monday at OPD where police officials showed a video of the incident. Officers provided medical assistance to Laperriere until first responders arrived. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.

What's the status of the officers? Young is on paid leave. Camacho and Collazo can return to duty with no restrictions whenever they're ready, officials said. The officers have more than 40 years of combined experience.

Where's Laperriere and is he facing any charges? At HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in serious condition. He's charged with two counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer. Laperriere is under guard, and was served with Baker act documents, authorities said.

Have any of the officers been involved in any other shootings? Yes. Last year, Collazo was one of three officers connected to the Home Depot parking lot shooting where Robert Francisco Gonzalez opened fire on authorities when they tried talking with him. Officers returned fire, killing the 41-year-old Silver Springs man. Prosecutors cleared Collazo and Officers Jesus Santiago and Jason Santos of any wrongdoing.
