Ocala man killed, three other people injured in State Road 40 East crash east of CR 314

One person was killed and three others injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash. According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, here's what we know:

On State Road 40 East just east of County Road 314

When did it happen?

About 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

What happened?

A pickup truck was westbound on SR 40 and a sedan was eastbound. For an unknown reason, the pickup crossed the center line and the vehicles' left edges collided.

What happened to the people involved?

The pickup driver, described by the FHP only as a 52-year-old Ocala man, was killed. His sole passenger, a 48-year-old Ocala woman, was critically injured. The patrol no longer provides names of people involved in crashes.

The sedan driver, a Deltona woman whose age was not provided, suffered serious injuries, as did her sole passenger, a 7-year-old girl.

The injured people were taken to hospitals.

About State Road 40 East

The state Department of Transportation has an improvement plan in place to make SR 40 East safer. The 13-mile project area is between a point just east of Northeast 58th Avenue (Baseline Road) to Levy Hammock Road, or Southeast 183rd Avenue Road.
