Obama's Prom Was Cooler Than Yours
We now know what Barry Obama and his date looked like at prom in 1979 -- and they probably looked better than you. What has become clear as more and more details of Obama's childhood have been unearthed is that Hawaii is the best place ever to be a teenager. Just look at that photo, provided by Obama's prom date to Time magazine. Even their prom fashion is not hideous.

Kelli Allman (née McCormack) gave Time the photos of 17-year-old Obama. Allman was the date of Greg Orme, Obama's friend from the basketball team. Obama's date was Megan Hughes, a student at the Hawaii School for Girls at La Pietra. "Kelli," Obama wrote in Allman's yearbook, "It has been so nice getting to know you this year. You are extremely sweet and foxy, I don't know why Greg would want to spend any time with me at all!" He says they should hang out that summer, even though Greg will be away. "Love, Barry Obama." Even the Hawaiian yearbook cover is infinitely cooler than the traditional heinous gold-and-black-plus-bear-mascot things stored in parents' attics nationwide. Just compare the Obama crew's not-horrible prom fashion to many politicians' prom photos they might wish hadn't been dug up:
