The Obamas Are Just as Excited About Jennifer Lopez’s Engagement as You Are

The presidential couple sent a heartfelt (and handwritten!) note to Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez.

Everyone is happy for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez—including the former president and first lady of the United States.

President Obama sent the couple a heartfelt note—handwritten, in cursive!—with his best wishes. “Michelle and I just wanted to congratulate you on your engagement,” he said. “After 26 years together, we can say that whatever challenges life may bring, sharing them with someone you love makes it all better.”

Rodriguez shared the card all over social media, because well, if you get a card from the president, you share it all over social media. “This means the world to us,” he tweeted.

Lopez has enjoyed a friendly relationship with the Obamas for years. She performed, alongside her ex-husband Marc Anthony, at one of the President’s Inaugural Balls in 2009. In 2014, the singer introduced First Lady Michelle at the United Latin American Citizens National Convention in New York City. And just this year, the two reunited onstage at the Grammy Awards alongside Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Alicia Keys.

Rodriguez and Barack, too, are no strangers: the baseball player visited the White House after winning the World Series as a New York Yankee.

Plus, the presidential couple loves a wedding even if they don’t know the groom and bride-to-be. Two summers ago, it came to light that Barack and Michelle responded to strangers’s invitations during their time in office, and after. A sample reply to one save the date sender: “Congratulations on your wedding day. May this special time be blessed with love, laughter, and happiness,” the card read. “We wish you all the best as you embark on your journey together, and we hope your bond grows stronger with each passing year.”

Does this mean they are a shoo-in for Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez's sure to be stunning nuptials? One can only hope.
