Obama Wants to Troll Your Republican Friends

President Obama's presidential campaign effort unveiled a new strategy last night--asking his supporters (those subscribed to the President's mailing list) to submit the email addresses of their Republican acquaintances. And it gets even more bizzarre--he basically wants to troll them. "When you give to the campaign, simply enter your Republican friend's email address and they'll get a note letting them know that they motivated you to donate -- which will surely make their day," Julianna Smoot writes in the email blast. Yeah, it's a perfect tool to passive aggressively tweak the conservative close to your heart, but White House Dossier points out a possible, more sinister motive. "More perniciously, it could also become part of an Democratic effort to influence Republican primary voters to select a candidate Democrats think Obama could most easily defeat," writes Keith Koffler. Granted, both the trolling and Koffler's more sinister theory might all depend on whether or not that "special conservative" in your life decides to read an email from one "Barack Obama." But even if your Republican ex-friend (doesn't giving out someone's personal email violate some code of email/spam etiquette?) isn't trolled sufficiently or convinced by a future Obama commercial, that's probably one more email address in Obama's database that it normally wouldn't have.

XXXX--

Everyone's got that special conservative in their life.

Maybe it's your dad, who forwards you every chain email about the President's birth certificate, or your neighbor, who just put up a Mitt Romney sign.

Dealing with these folks can be ... frustrating.

This holiday season, we're giving you a chance to have a little bit of fun at their expense. Let a Republican in your life know they inspired you to make a donation to the Obama campaign -- chip in $3 or more today.

When you give to the campaign, simply enter your Republican friend's email address and they'll get a note letting them know that they motivated you to donate -- which will surely make their day.

Not only that, but when you donate today, you'll be entered to win a chance to have dinner with the President and First Lady. Just picture how good it'll feel to let your honoree know about those dinner plans.

The other side is busy scrambling for the Iowa caucuses and a long string of primaries, trying to find a nominee. Meanwhile, we've got our candidate -- and we're already doing the work to get ready for November.

Give your conservative friends the gift of knowing they've inspired you to donate. After all, actions speak louder than words.

Please donate $3 or more today:

Thanks,

Julianna

P.S. -- Really want to fire up your GOP friends? Buy them a gift from the 2012 store. I recommend the birther mugs -- they get the message across pretty well.
