Obama raises campaign cash for Democrats at trio of fundraisers in New York

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama is heading to New York City to raise campaign cash for Democrats.

Obama will attend two fundraisers at private homes for the Democratic National Committee, including one hosted by film producer Harvey Weinstein. About 60 people are expected at each event, with tickets starting at $16,200. The DNC is still paying off debt it incurred during Obama's re-election.

Obama is also appearing at a joint fundraiser for the Democratic campaign committees in the House and Senate. About 140 people are expected at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where donors can pay $7,500 to attend or $32,400 to chair the dinner. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will attend.

Democratic officials say Obama has committed to at least 20 fundraisers in and out of Washington ahead of the 2014 elections.
