Obama to raise money for Democrats in California

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is traveling to California next week to raise money for the Democratic Party and receive a humanities award from film director Steven Spielberg.

Obama will raise money for the Democratic National Committee and the House and Senate arms of the party. His fundraising hosts include Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn, billionaire and former Qualcomm Chairman Irwin Jacobs, and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.

Among party donors are members of the high-tech industry. Many have been unnerved by revelations of spying by the National Security Agency and have demanded assurances that Obama is committed to privacy protections.

Obama also will receive the Ambassador for Humanity Award from the USC Shoah Foundation — The Institute for Visual History and Education that Spielberg founded. Last year's winner was actor George Clooney.
