Obama Heckled at Jerusalem Speech, but College Kids Still Love Him

Barack Obama knows how to work a crowd. While speaking to a group of 600 college students at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem, the President was briefly heckled by a lone student speaking in Hebrew. According to a pool reporter onscene, the heckler was yelling about Jonathan Pollard, an American citizen who was imprisoned in 1987 for passing classified information to the Israeli government. Obama took the interruption in stride, pausing to let the heckler speak. From the pool report:

“This is part of the lively debate that we talked about,” Obama said after pausing for the interruption. The crowd seemed to boo the heckler then began applauding. Eventually most in the audience rose to their feet, giving the president a standing ovation.

The friendly response seemed to be unanimous or nearly so. That warm response seemed to prompted POTUS to laugh a bit and say: “I have to say we actually arranged for that because it made me feel at home. I wouldn’t feel comfortable if I didn’t have at least one heckler.”
