Obama Apologized to Kamala Harris for Saying She's Hot

President Obama called California Attorney General Kamala Harris to say he was sorry for calling her the hottest attorney general in all the land, White House press secretary Jay Carney explained Friday afternoon, after a ton of criticism that Obama acted like an unenlightened bro. Obama was sorry for the remark and "for the distraction created by his comments."

At a fundraiser Thursday afternoon, Obama said of Harris, "You have to be careful to, first of all, say she is brilliant and she is dedicated and she is tough, and she is exactly what you'd want in anybody who is administering the law, and making sure that everybody is getting a fair shake." Then he said she "happens to be by far the best-looking attorney general in the country."

Unfortunately, the last part tends to diminish the first part. Carney said Friday that Obama "did not want in any way to diminish the attorney general's professional accomplishments and her capabilities," Carney said. Obama acknowledged that for women, people noticing what you look like in the office is not a feature, but a bug. "He fully recognizes the challenges women continue to face in the workplace and that they should not be judged based on appearance," Carney said.
