Oakland homicide Monday morning being investigated by police

(KRON) — A homicide that occurred early Monday morning is being investigated by the Oakland Police Department. The incident, according to police, occurred just before 7:30 a.m. Monday in the 2100 block of Myrtle Street.

Oakland PD’s Communication Division received notification of a shooting, police said. Officers were dispatched to the area to investigate.

Arriving at the scene, officers found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The Oakland Fire Department and Falck Ambulance were on the scene. First aid was rendered to the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

OPD Homicide Section investigators responded and took over the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. Police said the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
