Oakland hit-and-run Monday leaves pedestrian dead

(BCN) — A pedestrian was killed Monday morning in a hit-and-run collision in East Oakland, police said. The crash was reported about 12:45 a.m. near 75th Avenue and San Leandro Street, according to a release from Oakland police.

Multiple sideshow activities plague the Bay on Saturday

Officers found the victim with injuries apparently suffered from being hit by a car. The vehicle left after the collision, police said. Emergency medical aid was given to the victim, but they died at the scene. Police did not release the victim’s name.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit at (510) 777-8570.

U.S. federal regulators have requested more information from Zoox, Amazon’s self-driving unit, as part of an investigation into rear-end crash risks posed by unexpected braking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a preliminary investigation into Zoox on May 10 after it received two reports of Zoox vehicles unexpectedly braking, leading to rear-end collisions with motorcyclists that resulted in minor injuries. Zoox has a permit from California’s Department of Motor Vehicles to test its vehicles without a safety driver in Foster City and in parts of San Francisco.
