Oak Ridge Indoor Pool to close a month starting June 1 for installing fire sprinklers

The Oak Ridge Indoor Pool will close for about a month beginning on June 1 for fire sprinkler installation required by the state fire marshal's office

Crews will be installing a sprinkler system throughout the Oak Ridge Civic Center so patrons can expect temporary, short-term closures as construction to renovate the Civic Center into the new Oak Ridge Conference Center.

During the renovations, the Civic Center Indoor Pool area will be closed. The gym, Social Room, game room, and bathrooms will remain open.

Work is expected to last about a month. The state fire marshal's office requires the sprinkler installation as part of the renovations to the Civic Center for the new Conference Center. When the Oak Ridge Indoor Pool is closed for the work, the Oak Ridge Outdoor Pool will already be open as an alternative.

Swimming lessons that were previously planned for June 1 at the indoor pool will take place at the Oak Ridge Outdoor Pool.

If you have any questions about the availability at the indoor pool, call the Civic Center front desk at (865) 425-3450. For more information on the planned conference center, visit oakridgetn.gov/proposed-oak-ridge-conference-center.

The conference center will be 10,834 square feet and will have a banquet hall that could comfortably seat at least 400 people at tables. Partitions could be set up to turn that large hall into three smaller meeting spaces. There would also be smaller breakout rooms located at the front of the facility. Cost of the project is $4.59 million, which includes contingency funds.
